Listen Local

So, 50% of voters WANT to listen to the radio - but think the music sucks, so they don't.

Interesting.

If you're new to the area, or want to give local stations another chance... here's some decent options:

88.3fm - Conestoga College's station. Not a bad choice. Music is usually decent. You'll likely hear some weezer, nirvana, some ontario indies and then probably some garbage like nickelback. Be patient with the djs, they're mostly students or volunteers, not as groomed as the bigger stations, but definitely more sincere. Not many commercials and their news is usually relevant.

99.5fm - "the kingdom of kfun"? what the hell kind of slogan is that? brutal. this station used to oldies 1090 on am and really stuck to 60s and 70s rock, with some orginal R&B so naturally - if you could stand the buzz of am - it was an old faithful on the pre-sets. Now, they've moved to fm and are trying to steal away the baby boomers from 105.3 and 96.7 - so it's hit or miss. (unless you love Rick Astley - in which case... this stations for you)

100.3fm - formerly known as CKMS - these guys used to be funded by UW through the Federation of Students... they were denied their funding last year after a lot of politics and a referendum. The station is good - the hosts are diverse, but amateur - there's a lot of potential here. We'll see what happens over the next year.

Other than that - the choices are pretty beige.
5 stations for your parents, and 1 for your little sister.

If you wanna weigh in, or post a favourite. Do it.
H.
