So the city is trying to promote this "Cool Communities Residential Shade Tree Planting Program” that apparently increased the number of trees in Toronto by offering a rebate for buying Southern Ontario native trees or shrubs.
I don't know if the offer is compelling enough to make people go out and spend $80 on a tree right now... but here's the offer:
SAVE UP TO $100 ON NATIVE TREES AND SHRUBS FOR YOUR YARD THIS FALL
Visit your local nursery on September 12-13 or 19-20 and you can receive a $20 rebate on select native trees with a regular price of $100 or greater, and a $5 rebate on select native shrubs with a regular price of $20 or greater. There is a limit of 5 orders per household.

All the details here. Including participating nurseries, fine print of the rebate and links to other organizations and groups that have a thing for trees.
