Oh man! My inner geek was in full force last night.
We checked out the KW Hackerspace "Kwartzlab" opening... and so did A LOT of other people.

They had some tables set up to show the different workshops they put on, like how to solder... and basic electronics. Here's some:

Here's Darin - one of the key members of Kwartzlab.

All the current members had name tags made out of wallpaper tape. hahaha. amazing.
Then we hung out with this guy Ed, for a bit - he was telling us about this project he's been working with WCI on (which made me think of one of my most wicked teachers in my whole educational lifetime - Mr.Bob Clarkson - who apparently was showing up at 10pm. hahaha... i should have stayed). The car/contraption is run on a battery which is powered by solar panels... it's basically a lesson on why it is so hard for the car companies to figure out how to create the ideal electric car.
Here's Ed telling us about the remote control:

The electric car / moving dolly / wheelbarrow:

Here's the software they made.... do you say made? i should know that... it shows how much power you're using, etc...

On the wall separating the social area to the workspace, they have these:

They hold pens, stickers, take-out menus... amazing. love it.
The space is wicked - The Boehmer Box Factory - their space used to be the Muskoka Soap Company - but they've done a pretty thorough job of making it their own. if you like to make stuff... go there and check it out.
This was also probably one of the most friendly public event i've ever been to. which is extra great.
