Amazingness. Best food. EVER.
Basically, you get there, you eat some dumplings, you make some dumplings and then you eat 500 more dumplings. you get drunk in the process, eat dessert and laugh about all the various quirks of everyone's cultural practices. Here's some pics to sum it up -
Making dumplings - there are many different techniques to sealing up these little guys - i was going for a little bit of flair by crimping the edge - but i was lucky enough to be passed on the Chen family "two-fold", a much more contemporary design.
Uh - YUM. These ones are fried up, but there was also an amazing boiled version.
This was dessert - slightly frightening looking. Once you get over the fact that they are round little squishy balls in warm liquid - they're ok.
They are rice balls with a sesame seed explosion inside them... sitting in a warmed up sugar water. The flavour of the inside was pretty awesome, you just have to get over the initial squish.
