CIGI talk ... slightly terrifying.

(image from The New Republic)

Hit up the CIGI talk last night with about 200 grey haired people and 25 other people that weren't seniors. What is up with the audience at those things? I try telling myself that it's because younger people are interacting with these issues at the University events... but i don't actually believe that. I think it's because young people are little shits, aka apathetic.

Anyways, maybe these couple recap points from Cleo Paskal's talk will entice you to come out next time:
  • It is a good idea to start calling it Environmental Change instead of Climate Change... it isn't just the weather that is changing.
  • The Chinese Gov't is cozying up to Canadian Aboriginals - in what is being seen as a first step in them gaining access to the Canadian Arctic. Uhmmm ... is any one else a little bit worried about this?
  • There is going to be some massive issues when islands start going under water. Seriously. stuff like - who will take in the population of an eroding island? and will the waters that over take it be International Waters? or the property of the country that takes in the population?
I think that's enough doomsday talk for a Friday, don't you?
It's almost the weekend, cheer up!
H.
