Haiti.

For those of you who have been off the planet surface earlier in the week, Haiti has had a devastating earthquake. We need to help.

We just donated $40 to Medecins sans Frontieres, aka Doctors without Borders.

You should too. Here's the link.

UPDATE: Regular reader, Bronwyn, has also recommended FIDA-PCH (Foundation for International Development, productive cooperatives HAITI) for donations going directly to Haiti. Please give generously friends.

  1. Hey H
THanks for all the great stuff you cover - I read you every day... For Haiti there is a local NGO that does work exclusively in Haiti setting up Agricultural co-operatives in rural areas. They also run a guesthouse in Port Au Prince to help support Haitians in the capital and support their other projects in the countryside. I was blessed to travel with them to Haiti two years ago in January and had an incredible trip. They are a trustworthy organization and I highly reccomend that you donate money to them as well. Their website is www.fida-pch.org.
    Thanks much Bronwyn

  3. Hey there,

As someone with zero income, pinching pennies has become second nature and wow, I complain and complain about the hard times I've come by... Yet, each week I go to market to buy my fresh local meat and produce, my tasty local bread and treat myself to a delicious latte from Eco Cafe...

What the heck am I complaining about?! Sure, I would indeed LOVE a job to make my life moderately less stressful - or at least exchange one stress for another... But I've got my home and friends and fresh food on the table and I sleep fairly soundly every night curled up in cozy bed and someone's cozy arms...

I always feel a little silly when I think of how rough things could actually be...

SO, all this is to say that yes, I donated as well in support of Haiti... $100... the total of my most recent GST cheque from the government that I had just deposited. It was once destined to be spent on wine and other libations so I feel way better by sending it to where it's really needed.

Plus, maybe generating some good karma will get those job offers flowing in :)

Thanks for the links to the donation sites!
