Here's a couple site suggestions i made:
- In front of the Tannery,
- At the King st. border of Kit/Wat
- On the terrace of the Kitchener Market, it's pretty bare up there.
- In front of the School of Pharmacy
- In front of the Barra Castle... although, this is private prop.. so i don't know how that works.
You're asked to contribute three experiences you've had with Public Art... i used these:
- The CAFKA outdoor pieces - in the fall P and i cruised around kitchener on our bikes to check out a bunch of the sites, it was an amazing, sunny day... we stopped for a coffee... and i noticed the fountain by the bus terminal that i literally had NEVER noticed before.
- Victoria Park Luggage - i love to go sit there in the summer on weekdays after work. My grandfather was a Holocaust survivor who travelled here after years of hiding, and then fighting in a war in Israel... the luggage is so beautifully crafted, and so real looking.. it makes me think about how multicultural our Region is and what it must have been like to leave your home with 1 bag... if that.
- Iron Horse Trail, Industrial Machinery - cruise this trail all spring/summer/fall. I think the old manufacturing pieces are a great reminder that our region has it's roots in pioneering a lot of manufacturing practices... and it's a pretty crazy juxtaposition while you're biking up to UW or the new tech park.
Little cheesy maybe, but hey - i'm throwing it out there.
You should too.

Ah! The luggage! I completely agree!
ReplyDeleteAs a fourth generation Canadian who grew up in a very small caucasian town - the diversity of Kitchener was one of the most startling and amazing things I experienced when I moved here.
The new entrance to Victoria Park is definitely one that everyone should get out and see! I love the idea of the luggage; Kitchener is a diverse community built on experiences and perspectives and a crazy amount of culture. I'm glad this was embraced and utilized as the inspiration for the welcome mat to our city's jewel in the rough - Victoria Park.
