“We say things about each other that are hurtful and that are destructive,”
REALLY?!!?!
This is the reason we shouldn't explore amalgamating our cities? Because feelings may get hurt?
WTF.
Dear Waterloo,
Thanks for listening to your residents... and oh, I AM SO HAPPY I LIVE IN KITCHENER. gfy.
H.
ps. Yes, the all caps in this post were absolutely necessary.
pps. here is a very rational blog about the amalgamation question, with comments. check it out.
I think that statement could be more accurately interpreted as "We've been through this many times before and it's never pretty, so we don't want to do it again."
ReplyDeleteWatching the delayed broadcast last night, I thought Freeman did well in her comments. She made several points, only one of which was partly quoted in the Record.
ReplyDeleteI think that if Kitchener was on the fence about the decision, this would have been an acceptable response.
ReplyDeleteBut, due to the fact that Kitchener is open to discussing the issue, I don't know how Waterloo just move to shut the convo down.
uncool.
I doubt that the view that they should have felt compelled to vote yes because Kitchener already did would win a lot of popular support in Waterloo.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'm very anxious to see how this shit continues to play out.
ReplyDeletei say a city council cage match settles all.
i'll bring the popcorn.
H.
I don't think this is moving to "shut the convo down". This motion came at the city council from out of nowhere. I don't think they're fundamentally opposed to talking about amalgamation, but I they had serious issues with the referendum process and what it would mean.
