City of Waterloo - Thumbs down.

Ok Waterloo - You've been off my radar for a little bit these days. But i just HAVE to bring this up:

This Saturday, to raise money for Haiti, City of Waterloo volunteers will be having a charity....

wait for it...

wait for it...

INDOOR CAR WASH.

I'm not gonna go all crazy on you or anything, because I'm still on a TED high and I am slightly worried that I'm over-reacting, BUT:

A) It's Winter.
B) IT'S AN EXTREME WASTE OF WATER!!!!!!!!!!!

You're using up natural resources to clean the first world's SUVs while people in Haiti are forced to solicit the black market for the foreign aid that isn't being properly managed into the hands of the needy???????????

Ok. Just sayin'.
Car washes should be $100 fucking dollars because they are so wasteful and unnecessary.
GAWD.

In other news, the City of Waterloo will be giving away Free Hot Chocolate and Chili tonight from 5-7 pm (while quantities last) at Waterloo Public Square to celebrate and thank the donors who made the frozen oval of clean water that we skate on, possible.

Almost positive this contributes to why the developing world hates North America.

  1. Free hot chocolate and chili, I'm there!

Also, you're claiming that car washes are wasteful. However, consider than not maintaining and taking care of your possessions (especiall big ticket items such as a car) and having to replace them sooner is even more wasteful.

Although Monday after the snowstorm, once I got home and most of the snow on my car was half melted, I squeegeed my car and it got most of the dirt off. I was pretty excited.

  2. I think it's tacky.

Considering all the issues surrounding motor vehicle emissions and water sanitation we face in today's world. A car wash for charity is so very North American: well intended, but thick.

I used to work at a car wash. I wasn't serving people who were concerned about maintaining their vehicle's condition so much as fostering their own ego and status, driving around in shiny motor vehicles. I was being paid minimum wage to get on my hands and knees and buff some rich asshole's rims.

Also, a car wash fundraiser? Come on, how generic can you get?

You don't have to live in the developing world to have issues with North America.

What's next Waterloo? An all you can eat buffet to raise money for the malnourished?

    Good call RQ!
