uptown controversy part 2

While at lunch at my Mom's house today - i took a quick flip through the Wateloo Chronicle. I have a warm place in my cold little heart for this community paper... i started my career at it's sister paper, The Cambridge Times. It's trashy, but it's true.

The bell was defaced Aug 15?! where was i?

The article by Greg MacDonald, says that "The city remains tightlipped as to who exactly drew all over the infamous bell in multi-coloured chalk, but no criminal charges will be laid."

Does that mean they know who did it?
Did they plan it? Is this a publicity stunt to make Uptown edgy? CAFKA? Christie Digital? RIM?
Loop clothing is infamous for it's chalk promotions... maybe it was them?
The possibilities are endless.

I know that there is mixed feelings about the bell - mostly ranging from rage to confusion - to combat this, the city is planning to put up a plaque explaining the heritage and meaning of the public art piece. interesting.

Anyways, kudos to the artists that chose to improve the piece... too bad it was powerwashed away by the afternoon.
