I was talking to someone the other day about all the great reasons to live in downtown kitchener. There's a lot of them.
I was also talking about when we were looking at an open house on Heinz ave by Victoria Park, and the real estate agent made a point of telling us the neighbourhood "was full of artists and gay couples".... based on our appearance, she had decided these would be selling features for us yuppies.
We did buy near Victoria Park, but in the slightly run down, cracky side the park, ideal for young, broke people like us.
Now the city is announcing the plan to build over 350 condo units on the Centre Block. You can find a full article on the plans in the Record, HERE. Wicked idea kitchener, don't fuck it up.
And by "don't fuck it up" i mean, don't go to market with some messaging about "living somewhere hip and affordable in the heart of the city" because we don't like that, it doesn't pull at our heartstrings, or appeal to our need to be cool.
Kitchener is eclectic and diverse and that's what we like about it. Not that it is cookie cutter, restored brick wall, bauer loft shit. Do your market research people, how many units at the Kaufman Lofts sit empty, and why? Who DOES live there? And do all of us "young high-tech workers" really want to live in a Condo? This is not Toronto, you can buy a house here with the down-payment from a condo on the Lakeshore or King West,
There's also talk of a boutique hotel going into the Mayfair - apparently with help of some of the people who created the Drake and the Gladstone on Queen West? Cool. Do this. And make sure there is a decent bar in it. For God's Sake.
Those are my demands for today C o K,
we can discuss further when you buy me lunch.
H.
