Adam Kahane on Power and Love

I was at the Adam Kahane book launch last night at CIGI, hosted by SiGWaterloo.

Oh look! It's Sam!

Totally great concept, Power and Love, as two drives that dictate human behaviour in conflict - and Kahane has 20 years of dealing with mammoth sized challenges... apartheid, climate change, aboriginal rights, the food system... so, i feel like he's got a handle on the idea.

A great part of the talk he gave, was small bits of time at the beginning, middle and end, to discuss with the person next to you (most likely a stranger, because a lot of people were there alone it seemed) about some different aspects he was talking about. I mean, these are BIG concepts, and not necessarily ones that you're going to grasp within an hour. He describes the challenge of being able to employ the 2 drives equally as "a life's work"... and i believe him.

And before you even start thinking that you know what the book is about, just from the title, you don't... so ... yeah..."suspend your assumptions" as he said last night.

Anyways, many many many highlights to the evening, very anxious to get into the book.
I've been feeling a lot of great stuff presenting itself lately... like this manifesto that Seth Godin has put out to accompany his new book "Linchpin". Check out the 14 page manifesto ebook here.

Alright! Happy Thursday!
H.

PS. thanks Sam, Renjie and SiGWaterloo for putting this on, it was a great night.
