Have been there yet? You should go. The food is pretty much amazing and the atmosphere is great.
So the night was a special one - $65/person included 6 courses paired with 6 different Canadian Beers - we originally thought it was going to be random craft beers from across the country - but turns out that it was sponsored by Sleeman's so they all fell into that family of beers.
Still delicious and really interesting though. Menu looked like this:
To start:
Upper Canada Lager
With homemade pretzels and chips served with an amazing mustard sauce.
Then:
Some crazy apple ale called 'ephemere' - served with tuna tempura and a malted cabbage.
Then:
Sleeman Cream Ale (slightly lame) with a salad w/ goat cheese, radishes and intense candied cranberries.
Thennn:
Totally can't remember the beer on this one... Crap! But it was with a slice of beef called a 'beef cheek' (gross - the veg option was grilled shitake mushrooms!) On the most amazing mashed potatoes ever and a great relish on the side.
Thennnn:
Trois Pistoles (a stout maybe? I had already had 4 beers by then!)
Served with fried chicken on waffles with maple syrup - apparently a southern states dish. Mine was deep fried cheese on a waffle. Hello!
And then finally:
Sleeman fine porter served with a little triple chocolate fest... Topped with a truffle sprinkled with sea salt. Crazy combination.
Amazing menu, great service - little introductions to each beer by a beer genius named Roger who teaches at Humber.
Totally recommend checking out Uptown 21 for any special occassion, or just to enjoy the summer or get out of the house. They have some great seats that face into the kitchen - totally great for all you foodies who like to see the chef in action. Uptown 21 is hosting an event during the uptown jazz festival too - so keep your ears open for that.
Special thanks to Chris and Nat for not kicking us out when we were chatting and drinking after everyone else had left!
You know it's been a great night when....

Ps. I would have taken more pictures - but P was freaked out that I was drawing attention to our table. So you just get this one gem of Faye-bot and Tricky. Happy birthday dude!
